I Feel A Great Desire To Meet The Masses Once Again Walid Raad & The Atlas Group |

Date : |
In November 2004, back in New York to visit his family, Walid Raad was detained and questioned by the police and the FBI for several hours at Rochester airport. Before his amazed eyes pass all the things in his suitcase; photographs, videotapes, documents and books, bank statements, you name it. In this unique framework and from the angle of the interrogation, all these innocent objects take on a wholly different meaning. An allegory of the frail identity and security of the western nations in the wake of September 11, I Feel A Great Desire To Meet The Masses Once Again is above all a softened picture of a much more chilling reality, that of the policy of extraordinary rendition, the so-called legal kidnappings carried out by the CIA as a matter of course since the 1990s. |
